Approx. every 2 out of 5 women face postpartum depression in India and the number of increasing due to depression and other issues. According to Dr. Garima Tyagi, the leading gynecologist in Delhi-NCR, the symptoms of PPD usually starts within the week of delivery or after a few months.

What is Postpartum Depression?
Usually, the baby blue stays for long weeks and the symptoms include anxiety, inability to sleep, and quick fluctuations in mood.
Dr. Garima Tyagi explains that if you experience depression during pregnancy period, then there is a high chance of PPD. Delaying in getting medication for this issue in the early stage will certainly lead to the major problem.
Symptoms of Postpartum Depression-
Different women would experience different PPD symptoms depending on the severity of the problem and the environment around.
If you witness any of the PPD symptoms then it is better to seek assistance from the doctor to overcome the issue. Some of the symptoms are-
- Feelings of hopelessness, pessimism
- Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness
- Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that you once enjoyed, including sex
- Decreased energy, fatigue, being “slowed down”
- Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
These symptoms can take a toll on your post-delivery life which is really important to be good.
Treatment for Postpartum Depression-
The treatment for postpartum depression completely depends on the symptoms you are showing and the severity of the issue.
The general treatment consists of antidepressant and anti-anxiety medicines along with taking to the doctor for therapy purpose.
Some of the treatments for Postpartum Depression are-
Keep your body active with exercise-
Exercise can work as the anti-depressant because it will help your mind to be active. Keep taking a walk with your baby regularly which will help you to get fresh air.
When it comes to workout, don’t go for heavy one because it may affect the body entirely. Do yoga and meditation that will help your mind to stay calm.
Maintaining Healthy Diet-
Healthy eating diet is really important because it will help your body to get enough nutrients and minerals.
Take a list of nutritious foods that can help your body to calm. Create a meal plan with the help of the doctor will help you to have a healthy food intake. Keep consuming chopped carrots an apple slices.
Engage with activities-
Spending time with self, reading books and watching movies are some of the activities which you can engage in when you are facing any of the symptoms of PPD.
Never keep dealing with PPD for long because it will affect your health, relationship with near ones and baby.
The Me Time is really important to overcome the problem. Take a proper nap, go for a move, and do meditation regularly.
Beef up with Fish Oils-
It is a good time to beef up your intake of omega-3 fatty acids like DHA. Women with DHA will have a higher chance of PPD. The best way is to consume fish and other such items will really help. In case, you are vegetarian then flaxseed oil is the right source.
One of the traditional treatments, psychotherapy is more effective because it helps the doctor and patient to know the real problem.
The patient is able to express what’s going on in the mind. You can also set goals and find ways to overcome the issue and have a peaceful post-delivery life.
In many cases, the doctor may also suggest anti-depressants. These medications can be very helpful to overcome the problem.
